ellen allien + sascha funke / the social, toronto / 05/05/08
Sascha Funke and Ellen Allien were insanely great, creating one of the best nights out since Alex Smoke last December. The night started off with Toronto techno pioneer Kenny Glascow. I connected with him over a party that got busted 10 years ago in Victoria, BC. We all wound up at some mansion in the woods and Kenny saved the night by performing under bizarre circumstances. It was exciting to share a memory that was unforgettable for both of us. Sascha Funke played a great set, while whipping out some old classics that still sound as fresh today as they did years ago. For a Monday, it was a packed house and everyone was dancing. The crowd was so friendly, making an already great night even better with so much positive interaction. I seriously haven't had an experience like this in so long. Ellen Allien finished off the night delivering some great grubby dance-floor tech sounds. I paid the price today at work, but when something is so good, the consequences are worth it.
